Pilates is essentially concepts and philosophies as developed by Joseph Pilates supported with a series of exercises. The emphasis is on spinal, shoulder and pelvic stabilization, spinal alignment and on the recruitment of balanced, co-ordinated neuromuscular movement patterns. Abdominal strength, flexibility endurance and co-ordination are hallmarks of these exercises.
